The Community Traffic Safety Team is established in Monroe County
Rochester, New York – Monroe County is starting a first-of-its-kind traffic campaign Friday morning in observance of National Pedestrian Safety Month.
The first-ever Community Traffic Safety Team was announced by the County. Professionals from the team will examine and resolve traffic issues for the locals. There will be a new hotline for reporting issues, as well as a new web portal. You can reach them at (585)-753-3200.
The new team will start holding quarterly meetings next year to go over crash data, hear comments, and assess how roads, walkways, and other features are designed. Additionally, it will discuss present risks and offer proactive suggestions to avert disasters in the future.
According to County Executive Adam Bello, automobile accidents in Monroe County result in approximately 5,000 injuries and 47 fatalities annually. He emphasizes that enhancing road safety requires community involvement.
“Our neighborhoods are best known by the people that reside there throughout the county. You are aware of the locations with high rates of speeding, insufficient crosswalks, and intersections that seem risky. Our proactive efforts to enhance road, pedestrian, and infrastructure safety will be informed by the data and information you provide,” Bello stated.
Additionally, as School Bus Safety Week draws to a close, the county is still working on school bus safety. According to Bello, this group will also assist in stopping cars from passing school buses that have stopped.
