Swift interagency action by State Police, Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, and Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce results in the arrest of Timothy W. Lapoint for child exploitation offenses in Granville

Washington County, New York – A coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of a Granville man on serious charges related to child exploitation. On March 18, 2025, Timothy W. Lapoint, 54, was apprehended by the State Police of Greenwich. The arrest was made possible through the collaboration of the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Lapoint faces charges of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, categorized as a class “D” felony, alongside Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class “E” felony. These charges arise from allegations of his involvement in promoting and possessing materials that depict child sexual exploitation, a grave violation with severe legal consequences.

The investigation that led to Lapoint’s arrest was prompted by a cyber tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This tip triggered an in-depth inquiry, culminating in the execution of a search warrant at Lapoint’s residence in Granville, NY, on the day of his arrest.

Once taken into custody, Lapoint was transported to SP Greenwich, where officials processed and formally arrested him. Following this, he was brought to the Washington County Centralized Arraignment Part Court. During the proceedings, the judge determined bail to be set at $5,000 in cash, alternatively accepting a $10,000 bond or a $20,000 partially secured bond. Lapoint was subsequently remanded to the Washington County Correctional Facility.

This case highlights the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in combating child exploitation crimes. The swift response following the tip from NCMEC underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts among local, state, and federal bodies in addressing these serious offenses.

As the legal process unfolds, the arrest sends a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts required to safeguard children from such heinous acts. It also demonstrates the importance of vigilant reporting and international cooperation in preventing the exploitation of minors.

Lapoint will face the judicial system as the case progresses, with further details likely to emerge as investigations continue. The authorities stress the importance of community vigilance and collaboration in tackling these pressing issues to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations.
