Strong Museum reveals robot for virtual play in hospitals
New York – The Strong Museum of Play will allow children in hospitals to enjoy it virtually across the country and locally.
A new kid-friendly robot has been created to see, hear and interact with other guests at Strong. The robot will benefit more than a dozen hospitals including Golisano Children’s Hospital.
The robot can be remotely controlled by kids, while their voices and faces are displayed on it.
Strong teamed up with the Wego Foundation for a chance for kids to get away from their hospital rooms and make time for play.
According to the VP of marketing and communications at Strong, Sara Poe, children are also able to drive the robot from their bed.
“There is a tour guide partnered with the robot here at the museum that helps the children interact with our exhibits, and really make it seem as authentic an experience as we possibly can for them. It gives them a little bit of a break in their day and allows us to expand play outside of our walls here,” said Poe.
The museum will offer tours once a month throughout the end of the year and add days in 2022.
