Shooting outside of Roxie Ann Sinkler Rec Center

Rochester, New York – On Tuesday, at around 10 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the park outside the Roxie Ann Sinkler Rec Center on Grover Street.
According to Rochester police, there were many shots fired around the park, where there was a small group of men and a child.
The man was taken to Strong Hospital in a private car for treatment and he is expected to survive.
After RPD concluded its initial investigation, officers said that a small group, including a child, were at the park when someone began firing shots. The child is safe.
The area’s Shot Spotter Alert System first detected shots being fired, then neighbors started to call, RPD Lieutenant Greg Bello said.
According to Bello, the group was hanging out by one of the park benches when someone approached them and some sort of altercation led to a gun being pulled. Bello said a 27-year-old was taken to the hospital before they arrived on the scene.
”The fact they’re using guns, especially at 10 o’clock in the morning, there’s kids around, all sort of things, that’s ridiculous,” Bello said. “So you know, it’s frustrating by responding to these scenes. I don’t have a better word than it’s frustrating to deal with this sort of thing, to come to this sort of thing, because here’s some guys hanging at the park and getting shot.”
The rec center is normally closed during the morning, so we don’t know of anyone who was inside the rec center during the shooting. No arrests have been made. RPD is asking anyone with information to call 911.
Early Sunday morning, there was a double shooting outside a rec center on Webster Avenue, which left a 17-year-old Rochester City Schools student dead.
