Seneca Lake’s 50 dead snow geese are being examined for avian flu

Geneva, New York – According to officials, 50 dead snow geese found on Seneca Lake’s west shore are being tested for bird flu.
Public health officials in Yates County and Ontario began analyzing the geese after they were discovered near Kashong Point in Geneva.
Earlier this week, officials declared that Seneca County had lately been found to have avian flu.
According to the CDC, there is still little chance of humans contracting avian flu.
Nonetheless, the public should strongly avoid contact with groups of dead birds as they may be positive for bird flu.
In a statement, Ontario County Public Health director Kate Ott stated, “Surveillance is important, but there is no reason for immediate alarm.”
In an attempt to track the spread, there is an internet portal for reporting potential outbreaks in wild birds.
