Schuyler County substance use meeting coming up
Watkins Glen, New York – People are invited to an upcoming event to learn more about the prevalence of substance use in Schuyler County.
The Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD) will present a free public event in the cafeteria of Watkins Glen High School on Tuesday, December 3, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn more about the drug usage issue in Schuyler County, with a focus on how common drug use is among youth.
Schuyler County’s public health director, Jill Kasprzyk, stated that “since our first survey in 2013, we’ve seen dramatic decreases in youth substance use rates, and we want to keep the momentum going.” “We hope that community members will attend the event to gain more knowledge about this crucial subject and to offer their opinions on the course that the coalition should follow in the upcoming year.”
This event will include guest speakers from the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, Schuyler County Public Health, and the Schuyler County Youth Bureau. Light refreshments will also be served, and community members will have a chance to offer suggestions for the SCCUDD’s future direction.
The SCCUDD was funded by a 10-year grant from the federal Drug Free Communities Support Program until this past September. In addition to educating the public on the current drug usage situation in the county, the group will commemorate the advancements it has made over the last decade at this event.
The SCCUDD is an organization of community members, businesses, and agencies that work together to help Schuyler County youth avoid drug, alcohol, and tobacco use and become happy, healthy adults. To do this, the group collaborates with community partners, supports preventative education, advocates substance-free activities, and more.
