Schumer pushes for incentives to support Plug Power

Alabama, New York — A New York senator is looking for a boost for a technology hub in Genesee County.

According to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who was at the Western New York Science and Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park, or STAMP, campus in Alabama Wednesday, a two-pronged plan will help attract employers to the campus and boost the number of jobs offered there.

The senator says he’s also supporting the development of Plug Power’s green hydrogen fuel production facility through investments included in the federal infrastructure bill, in addition to pushing for new semiconductor manufacturing at the site by way of federal incentives.

“The WNY STAMP Campus is the perfect place to establish the next global hub for the semiconductor and clean energy industries,” Schumer said in a statement. “Now, with STAMP in contention to land Samsung’s $17 billion chip fab and its first tenant, Plug Power, is building North America’s largest green hydrogen fuel plant here, there’s no site better suited to lead the next tech revolution. And that’s because STAMP, with its shovel-ready facilities, low-cost and reliable utility grid, and top-notch workforce spanning from Buffalo to Rochester and beyond, is tailor-made to suit large-scale tech development.”

In addition to legislation, he says will help protect semiconductor supply chain capabilities, Schumer said he’s working with the House of Representatives to pass semiconductor incentives into law.
