Rochester to host first-ever Youth Forum on substance abuse and mental health, providing young people and families a safe space to learn, share, and connect

Rochester, New York – In an effort to tackle the growing concerns of substance abuse and mental health among youth, Rochester will host its first-ever Youth Forum on the subject. Scheduled for Saturday, April 12th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, this pivotal event aims to open a dialogue among young individuals aged 12-21, along with their parents or guardians, about the challenges and solutions related to these critical issues.
The forum will take place at the School of the Arts located at 45 Prince St, Rochester, NY. It presents a unique opportunity for participants to voice their questions, share personal experiences, and express their hopes for the future of community health. Organizers emphasize that the event is not just for sharing but also for learning, with educational segments dedicated to understanding various drugs and exploring treatment options.
This initiative is the result of collaboration among several local organizations passionate about empowering the youth. These include the Rochester City School District (RCSD), Teen Empowerment, The Center for Youth, My Brother’s Keeper, In Control, and Planned Parenthood. Each organization brings its expertise and resources to the table, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the topics of discussion.
The event promises to be engaging and informative, with lunch provided for all attendees. It’s designed not just as a meeting but as an interactive platform that encourages active participation and genuine exchanges between the youth and the guiding adults.
As spaces are limited, potential participants are urged to RSVP to secure their spot. This proactive step towards addressing such significant issues in the community underscores Rochester’s commitment to its younger residents, providing them with the support and knowledge they need to lead healthier lives.
