Rochester Malls’ crime rate decreases with new security

Rochester, New York – The Mall at Greece Ridge and Eastview Mall’s owner and management firm, Wilmorite, has reported a sharp decline in shoplifting in Rochester malls.

The corporation claims that new software and cameras, along with heightened security and police presence, are to blame for the drop in crime over the last six to twelve months.

In 2021, Wilmorite and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office resolved to improve the security surveillance at Eastview Mall. According to Wilmorite, the initiative proved to be so effective at Eastview that the corporation chose to invest in The Mall at Greece Ridge for 2023.

Wilmorite claims that as soon as the new technology was installed, the number of shoplifters being caught rose.

Eastview witnessed a 45% spike in shoplifting arrests in 2021, while The Mall at Greece Ridge experienced an 86% increase in arrests during the first year of operation. Furthermore, according to Wilmorite, shoplifting has dropped by 21% at Eastview Mall and 42% at Greece Ridge.

“Our great partnership with Wilmorite and the recent technological advancements at the Mall at Greece Ridge have been a powerful combination,” deputies with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said. “From my perspective, public safety is our No. 1 priority, and we work collectively in this regard at the Town’s largest commercial property. The ability to obtain real time intelligence regarding criminal behavior and share it across the crime-fighting community is a game changer. “

By using this security measure, Wilmorite has been able to prevent about $44,515 worth of items from being stolen from the two malls.
