Rochester launches diverse activities from yoga to entrepreneurship for school break week

Rochester, New York – The City of Rochester’s Department of Recreation and Human Services is gearing up to offer a week of engaging and enriching activities for the community during the school’s April recess. Scheduled from April 14 to April 18, 2025, these activities are designed to keep children and teenagers active, engaged, and learning through a variety of programs.

The events, set to take place at various R-Centers around the city, promise something for everyone, from sports and wellness to career exploration and educational workshops. These activities not only provide fun but also foster a sense of community and skill development among the participants.

Kicking off the week on Monday, April 14, the Easter Fun event will be held at the Lightfoot R-Center from 12 to 3 p.m., offering themed games and crafts. Following that, the Ryan R-Center will host the “Mindful Me: Yoga & Meditation” session in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative 4-H from 4 to 5 p.m., aimed at teaching young people ways to manage stress and find inner peace.

Simultaneously, the Gantt R-Center will start a three-day Youth Bike Repair Program from 1 to 3 p.m., where kids can learn to maintain and fix their bikes. Lifeguard Certification Classes will begin at the Adams Street R-Center, running from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 17, providing essential skills and certification for water safety.

One of the highlights of the week is the Biz Kid$ Camp, targeting children aged 10–13, which will run the entire week at 57 St. Paul St. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This camp focuses on fostering entrepreneurial skills and financial literacy among the younger demographic.

As the week progresses, more activities will unfold. Tuesday and Wednesday will see the continuation of the Biz Kid$ Camp along with open activities at the Ryan R-Center, which will provide various sports and arts options. A special “Easter Basket Making” session will be held at the Douglass R-Center on Wednesday afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m., adding a festive touch to the midweek.

Wellness Wednesday will introduce “Fun, Food & Fitness” activities in partnership with Fidelis Care, emphasizing health and well-being through interactive and informative sessions. On Thursday, the Gantt R-Center will host a Youth Wellness Summit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., further promoting health education. The same day includes the Sharp Shooter Showdown: a 3-Point Contest at the Ryan R-Center and an Easter Egg Hunt at Douglass R-Center, blending competition with community fun.

The week will wrap up on Friday with the final sessions of the Biz Kid$ Camp and a family-oriented event titled “Building Stronger Families” with Cornell Cooperative. Additionally, the much-anticipated Legends vs. Rising Stars basketball game will take place at the Sports Complex from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring a friendly match between staff and youth, symbolizing the mentorship and bonds formed through these community centers.

Participants are encouraged to register for these events through R-Central to ensure a spot in the activities of their choice.
