Monroe County, New York — Health officials made the announcement Wednesday afternoon that Omicron has been found in Monroe County.

COVID variant making its way here was only a matter of time, officials said.

“These results underscore the need for residents to keep following common-sense guidelines throughout the holiday season to protect themselves and their loved ones,” according to a statement by the county.

Health officials encourage people to get vaccinated, get their boosters, and wear masks when inside public spaces. If symptoms develop, they should also get a COVID test.

Stay home if you feel unwell and get tested before gathering with others over the holidays, county officials also recommend.

Monroe County reported 568 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. There were 186 new positive home tests reported.

In the Finger Lakes region, 502 individuals are hospitalized, 138 of them are in the ICU.
