Monroe County, New York – According to the CDC, Monroe County has reached a level of “high” COVID-19 transmission.

Monroe County is currently the only county in our area to reach that threshold.

A given county is designated as “high” risk of transmission when there are more than 200 new cases per 100,000 people within 14 days, or when the percentage of positive RT-PCR tests over the past 14 days exceeds 10%.

Monroe County was designated as “substantial” last week. On Wednesday, the county reported 168 new cases, up from 93 the day before. The positivity rate is at 4.5 percent. There are 78 COVID patients in Finger Lakes hospitals, more than double the number from Aug. 1.

Orleans, Wayne, Seneca, and Yates Counties have each been designated as being at a “substantial” risk of transmission.

Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, and Ontario Counties are listed as having a “moderate” risk of transmission.

According to the CDC reports that more than 98% of Americans live in areas that have an either high or substantial risk of COVID spread.
