Rochester, New York — Local law enforcement agencies are trying to find people to take the police exam.

About 20 students every Sunday, attend class with the Police Exam Career Prep.

According to the program director, he created it four years ago to fill openings in local law enforcement agencies with qualified people.

Students spend a year and a half working with the instructors there, studying police exam material in depth.

Darius McClendon is one of the students who started coming to the Sunday classes, where instructors worked through the problems with him.
“There are not enough officers that look like or have my skin color,” McClendon said about his goals. “It would desperately help fix what’s currently going on”.
When he passes the exam, McClendon wants to be a bridge between the Black community and police officers.

Another student, Trystan Sylvester, needed help with the physical requirements of the police exam.
“I couldn’t pass physical agility, six months later I can do everything,” Sylvester said.

The police exam program teaches students that they need to be strong both physically and mentally.

Course instructors are holding a free class on Sunday, August 29 to help prepare for the written police exam.
It’s open to anyone, just message (585) 734-9122 to register.
