KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival is back in-person this year
Rochester, New York — KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival is set to include more than 425 performances at a number of different venues this year, nearly a quarter of which will be free.
On Wednesday the lineup for the 10th iteration of the festival was announced, as were a number of new venues that will be participating.
In-person festivities are back this year after organizers shifted to the “Fringe at Home” last year amid the pandemic. Fringe is scheduled to take place between Sept. 14-25.
The festival will include a number of returning venues, such as the Eastman School of Music, the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County, and The Little. A number of new venues have also been added to this year’s festival, including La Marketa, the Sloan Center for Performing Arts, and The Spirit Room.
Festival organizers say, they’re excited to welcome people back in person this year.
“After a year and a half of lockdown, artists this year are very eager to perform in person again,” said festival producer Erica Fee. “We’re so pleased to be able to provide a platform for so many of them to share their work, which is the overarching mission of The Fringe.”
The Spiegeltent is one of the things that won’t be returning due to the pandemic. But organizers say they’ve acquired an Italian circus tent, The Charlotte, which will be housed throughout the festival at One Fringe Place.
“The good news is that, due to its construction, this will provide far better air ventilation and air exchange, and so our audiences and performers will be far safer,” said Fee.
The 2021 lineup includes a new Cirque du Fringe show, “Afterparty”, which will be held at The Charlotte.
A free mini-music festival will be held on Sept. 25 to close out the festival, curated and headlined by Rochester’s own Joywave.
Tickets for the 2021 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival are now on sale online.
Proof of vaccination and masks will be required for performances at indoor venues for performers and visitors 12 and older.
