Tyre, New York – In order to identify individuals who could have a gambling issue and link them to the necessary assistance, the New York State Gaming Commission is collaborating with casinos.

On Thursday, the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) commissioner visited del Lago Casino to talk about a new initiative that teaches casino staff how to spot and deal with possible problem gamblers.

In order to better understand how and who it is affecting in New York, OASAS and the Gaming Commission are also broadening the specific information they will ask mobile sports betting companies.

OASAS commissioner Dr. Chinazo Cunningham stated, “We need to have a data-driven approach that really uses evidence and best practices, just like we do with other addictions around alcohol and substance use.”

According to Robert Williams, executive director of the NYS Gaming Commission, “Any consideration of further expanding gambling opportunities, whether electronic or otherwise, must factor into the broader public health implications of increased gambling availability.”

In addition, the state is launching a new program in two weeks that allows anyone who is concerned about their excessive gambling to refrain from engaging in any regulated gaming in New York.
