Greece may get a solar farm to fuel local industries
Greece, New York – The town of Greece is seeking to construct its own solar farm along Ridge Road after the town of Henrietta received state funding to replace a transformer in one of its substations.
The town hall, the library, the street lights, and anything else the town needs power for would all be powered by the farm’s electricity.
According to town supervisor Bill Reilich, “it will save taxpayers money and the return on that is about four years from the completion of the construction, from that point onwards, it will be savings of $1 million a year.” “Therefore, we will be producing electricity back to RG&E that can be used elsewhere because we are not paying electrical bills.”
On Thursday, the RFPs are due. Half of the estimated $10 million cost will be covered by grants the town is seeking.
According to Reilich, building would begin this year and might be completed in as little as six months to a year if the grants are approved and the plans are workable.
