Fatal shooting at Walmart plaza
Rochester, New York — According to Rochester Police nearly 50 shots were fired into the crowd at the Hudson Avenue Walmart parking lot. Four people were struck. Angel Gonzalez-Pagan, 18, died.
Xenairis Sanchez was there to attend a late-night car show and said the shooting started just minutes after she arrived.
“I was there at the wrong place at the wrong time,” Sanchez said.
It turned out to be one of the scariest moments of her life.
“People were just dancing around having a good time, then just something just got someone mad,” she said.
“I saw somebody push somebody but it was too [crowded] so I don’t know who actually it was,” she said. “I just pulled out my phone and I started recording, like normal me. I record everything.”
Moments after she hit record, she heard gunshots.
“I heard at least over 20 gunshots. So as soon as I heard the first one, I said, ‘I’ve got to go,'” she said.
People in the crowd fled for safety. Sanchez left on her motorcycle.
“I was scared. I was scared. And I was scared for my friends, because, you know, it was just, trying to have a good time, and stuff just happened,” Sanchez said.
She found out hours later that the shooting proved fatal.
Sanchez knows she was lucky to make it out unharmed.
“I was devastated. I was so sad and I feel bad for the family. It’s hard. It’s hard,” she said. “Rochester is getting crazy.”
