Dozens of people gathered outside the House of Mercy in Rochester on Thursday supporting Sister Grace Miller

Rochester, New York – It has been more than 40 years since Sister Grace Miller founded the House of Mercy organization and she has been an executive director up until recently, changed from the position against her will.
Dozens of her supporters gathered outside the House of Mercy in Rochester on Thursday supporting Sister Grace Miller asking the board of directors to name her as an executive director once again. Currently, Sister Grace Miller is moved to a new role as spiritual director.
Despite she supporters’ requests, the board of directors probably won’t change their initial decision.
According to the board of directors, the process of changing Miller took almost two years. Ed Hourihan, House of Mercy Board Chair, said the new director in the name of Tammy Butler is the best suited to run the organization at this time.
“The remarkable thing is they’re working great together,” Hourihan said. “Dr. Butler and Sister Grace get a long. We want Sister Grace here. That’s her office right there. She isn’t going anywhere. The notion that she is being replaced of removed is preposterous.”
“I’m not here to occupy an office,” said Sister Grace at the rally. “I’m not here for a title. Executive director is only a title. My heart is here, my heart is here for the people.”
The supporters who gathered on Thursday said they have nothing against Butler and they even work Siter Grace to work with Butler together.
