Couple finally home after being stuck on I-95 for 19 hours
Rochester, New York— After being stuck on I-95 just outside of Washington D.C. for 19 hours, a local family from Irondequoit is finally home.
After spending the holidays with family, Tony Trotto and his wife were heading home from North Carolina.
Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, they hit Richmond, Virginia.
Soon after, traffic on I-95 came to a standstill and didn’t start moving again until 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to Trotto, there was a sense of camaraderie amongst travelers, but it felt great to arrive home.
“There wasn’t anyone laying on their horn or being rowdy and everyone was frustrated but no one took it out on anyone else,” said Trotto.
Trotto mentions they had a few bottles of water in the car and a large jar of cashews to snack on. They didn’t run out of gas and only used about a quarter of a tank.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, they finally made it back to Irondequoit.
