Certain RRH security guards granted peace officer status
Rochester, New York – Certain security guards at Rochester Regional Health have been granted peace officer status by new legislation signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
Those personnel will have more authority as a result of this position, enabling them to use force and make arrests as needed.
In a statement, Governor Kathy Hochul stated, “My top priority is keeping New Yorkers safe, and everyone deserves to be able to access medical care in a safe and secure facility.” “By signing this legislation, we are giving Rochester Regional Health the tools they need to ensure the safest care for their patients, protect visitors, and keep their employees safe from harm’s way.”
Next week, we anticipate hearing more from the hospital system regarding this policy change.
At Rochester General Hospital, RRH previously implemented the Evolv security screening system, which use artificial intelligence to identify people carrying concealed weapons.
In addition to using the Evolv technology at Strong Memorial Hospital, the University of Rochester employs both armed and unarmed peace officers at its academic and medical institutions.
