Brothers kept the bodies of their dead mother and sister buried in their yard for years, released from jail free, with no charges

Mental health is something that should not be neglected and is a serious matter as every day the number of people suffering from mental illness is increasing and it is time for the states to take additional precautions to help and care for these people, who, in some cases are dangerous to the environment and instill fear in their relatives, acquaintances and neighbors.

One of these people are the two hoarder brothers with mental illness who, as a result of their serious mental disorder, have done reckless things, things that leave the society stunned, and instilled additional fear at neighbors who have not seen them for more than a year.

The 41-year-old John L. and the 45-year-old Michael L., both of Illinois, were apprehended when officers found human and animal remains in the back of their property, after conducting wellness check at their hoarded house.

The check in was conducted after public workers reported the house is full of debris and garbage and water has not been used over a year at the house.

According to the police, the brothers were living at their mother’s house, which was full of filled containers with urine and feces, garbage and debris. They were living in a clutter inside the house.

When questioned by investigators, they confessed burying the bodies of their sister and mother at the property. Additionally, both of them said that they did not killed neither their mother nor their sister, claiming their mother was killed in 2015 by their also mentally ill sister, who died from Covid-19 in 2019, after pushing her down the stairs causing her head contusion.

During the questioning, the investigators were shocked by the Michael’s and John’s claims that their sister has died of Covid-19 in 2019, as not a single Covid-19 case was yet reported in the US and in the world also.

The brothers said to police that due to financial problems and in order to avoid paying for the funeral costs, decided to bury the bodies in the yard, adding that several animals were also buried next to them.

Authorities say apparently the deaths of the victims were not reported by the brother since no records regarding their deaths exists.

While investigation is pending, the brothers were released from custody only two days after their arrest and are receiving assistance from a social services agency due to their alleged mental health illness.

The bodies that were excavated from the yard are undergoing a forensic evaluation in order to determine the cause of death of the victims and to ensure with a DNA testing that the bodies are the ones of the Michael’s and John’s mother and sister.

As investigation is ongoing, Michael and John may face felony charges for illegally disposing of bodies, and if evidence show that they are responsible for the deaths of their mother and sister, they will be charged for two counts of first degree murder each.
