Awards for Restore New York were given to Newark and the City of Geneva

Geneva, New York – Restore New York funds were distributed around the Empire State this week by the state of New York.

By providing communities with financial aid for the restoration of commercial and residential properties, Restore New York, as stated on the website of the state, “provides municipalities with financial assistance.” The initiative promotes the expansion of neighborhoods and the development of communities by removing and redeveloping structures that have fallen into disrepair.

A total of four projects were granted, with two of those projects located in Monroe County. Two of the other ones are for projects in Newark and Geneva respectively.

With the assistance of a grant of $1.5 million, the historic building located at 435 Exchange Street in the City of Geneva, as well as properties located on Castle Street in the vicinity, will be transformed into a mixed-use building.

The state has stated that the upper floors would be converted into fifteen residential apartments, while the seven spaces on the ground level will be remodeled to accommodate commercial enterprises. The facade will be renovated, but the historic character will be preserved throughout the process.

There was a grant of one million dollars awarded to the enormous space located at 131 Harrison Street in Newark. There will be 101 housing units created as a result of the renovation of the historic property.

The statement that was released by the Mayor of the Village of Newark, Jonathan Taylor, read, “I am excited about this grant.” Coventry Commons and the additional housing that it will bring to Newark are something that we, as a community that supports housing, are looking forward to receiving. When it comes to the revitalization of the village’s downtown, this initiative is quite crucial.
