Auburn City Council urges New York Governor to elevate EMS to level of essential service

New York – The Auburn City Council passed a resolution calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to classify EMS personnel as essential health care workers, at their last meeting.

Only 11 states consider EMS an essential service on the level of police or firefighters.

According to Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason, the Council believes with the state in a strong fiscal position, the Governor should raise the profile of EMS workers and include money in the state budget for EMS services.

There are a number of health care proposals in the Governor’s Executive Budget.
