Outdoor workers plan to keep warm in frigid forecast
Rochester, New York – No matter how frigid it gets those who work out in the elements are pushing through the cold temperatures this weekend.
Temperatures soon dropped well below freezing, after the major snowfall at the beginning of the week.
Workers are bundled up at Evergreen Car Wash in Rochester.
“You just have to keep as warm as you can. Layer, layer, layer,” said Denice Allen, owner.
According to Allen, living and working in Rochester all her life has prepared her for the winter conditions.
“You have to just figure it’s going to be cold. We watch the weather every night and morning. I always tell our employees to bring extra socks. You can at least dry them off in the dryer if you do get wet because you are going to get wet,” said Allen.
Patti Marshall is a school crossing guard, giving students signals each day, whether it’s warm or cold. Her job includes making sure the roads are safe, as students get to where they need to go.
“The biggest danger here is the drivers are going too fast for these conditions, and we have to cross kids going across Lehigh Station Road,” said Marshall.
Monroe County has also issued a ‘Code Blue,’ which means extra emergency shelter is available for those in need.
Those in need of emergency housing are asked to call 585-442-1742.
