National Guard members coming to Monroe County to help staff nursing homes by the end of the week
Rochester, New York— In order to help to alleviate nursing home staffing shortages, Gov. Kathy Hochul is sending members of the National Guard to Monroe County.
On Wednesday, Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin made the announcement in Rochester.
The Governor’s order comes on the first day of Monroe County’s State of Emergency due to rising COVID case numbers and hospitalizations.
The county is reporting 624 new COVID cases Wednesday.
According to Benjamin, the governor is sending members of the Guard across the state, but the bulk is coming to Monroe County. They will mostly be focused on Monroe Community Hospital.
The facilities can accept more patients from hospitals if they have more staff.
The National Guard members are expected to be in Monroe County by the end of the week.
