Another COVID-19 variant discovered in U.S.
New York – A new variant of COVID-19 was discovered in Louisiana, United States.
B.1.630 variant, was found in two samples from Baton Rouge.
There is no reason to be concerned, according to experts.
According to Krista Queen, Director of Genomics and Surveillance at LSU Health, Delta is much more concerning, with 99.9% of cases being that strain.
The mutation is in a sequence they have seen in other variants, which shows it does have the ability to escape the immune response, added Queen.
They will continue to monitor this variant, which was discovered in March of 2021.
