Rochester mayor resigns as part of plea deal
Rochester, New York – Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is resigning after accepting a plea deal.
She was facing two felony counts related to allegations of her campaign finances being mishandled during the 2017 mayoral election in Rochester.
Mayor Warren, along with Albert Jones Jr. and Rosiland Brooks Harris, were each charged with violating election laws, which are felonies.
If convicted, each person would have faced 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.
Instead of Jury selection at the Monroe Supreme & County Courthouse, attorneys met in the judge’s chambers, negotiating plea deals for all three defendants, during most of the day.
After pleading guilty the mayor declined to make a statement and was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge, which includes resigning as mayor by Dec. 1.
