Police investigating alleged burglary on Thomas Street

Rochester, New York — According to the Rochester mother whose five children were hospitalized after a car crashed into their living room, her home has now been burglarized.

Shannon Evans says electronics were stolen and the copper plumbing was ripped out of the walls.

There is an active investigation into the matter, the Rochester Police Department says.

The family is not currently staying at the home following the crash.

According to police, Evans and her children were inside their home on Thomas Street last Tuesday when Jawanda Chandler drove through the wall. She is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree. She is due in court on July 30.

Four of Evan’s children were released from the hospital soon after the crash, but a fifth child who suffered serious injuries was just released Sunday.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family.
