RPD believe recent shootings in Rochester are not random
Rochester, New York – In less than five days, there have been three reported homicides within a two-mile radius, on Bartlett, Genesee, and Garden Street in Rochester.
Every incident was similar to the other, all victims were reported to be shot multiple times with more than one weapon.
According to Rochester Police, these recent shootings are not random.
Mayor Lovely Warren acknowledged these incidents are “targeted crimes” or an act of retaliation between different groups.
Interim Rochester Police Chief Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan stopped short of saying that the shootings are gang-related, but admitted they are similar in nature. She continued on to say that there is no question that Rochester has a major violence problem right now.
According to RPD, this weekend they will be stepping up their efforts to find those behind the recent violence. A specialized unit will be utilized to find the suspects. The team has been used to target known violent offenders.
Friday’s shooting is the 147th shooting in the city of Rochester this year, 22 of them being fatal.
