Federal charges for 3 in SUV that hit troopers, officer in Buffalo
Buffalo, N.Y. – Federal charges have been filed against three people in an SUV accused of driving through a police blockade at a protest in Buffalo Monday night.
Two New York State troopers and a Buffalo police officer are recovering from injuries that night on Bailey Avenue and Decker Street.
Deyanna Davis, 30, Semaj Pigram, 25, and Walter Stewart, 28, are each charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. All three had been convicted in the last ten years of a crime.
One June 1, authorities say Davis drove a Ford Explorer drove through the blockade with Pigram and Stewart as passengers, striking a trooper and a Buffalo police officer, and running over another trooper who was on the ground.
Troopers on the scene fired shots at the vehicle. Authorities were able to stop the SUV and took all three people into custody.
Troopers say Pigram and Stewart were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Davis was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.
Trooper Ronald Ensminger remains in the hospital with a shattered pelvis and a broken leg. He has been with New York State Police for 19 years.
The other trooper injured, Randall Shenefiel, suffered a hand injury and the Buffalo police officer had minor injuries. Shenefiel has been with State Police for 17 years. Buffalo Police have not yet identified the officer injured in the incident.
