“It didn’t have to happen”: Daughters of man killed in Gates crash speak out
Gates, N.Y. – The daughters of a man killed in a double-fatal crash in Gates this week are making an emotional plea for drivers to practice safer habits on the road.
William Lawson and Dianne Donnelly were killed this week in a head-on crash on Spencerport Road in Gates. Police charged Anthony Vandoren of Rochester with driving under the influence of drugs after they reportedly found several single-use packages containing suspected heroin or fentanyl.
Lawson’s daughters say they are still processing the devastating loss.
“We’re still trying to figure things out, because it’s just so unbelievable that this happened,” said Christine Lawson. “And it didn’t have to happen, that’s the thing.”
Lawson’s daughters called Vandoren’s alleged actions selfish. They say people need to stay focused while on the roads.
Vandoren suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash
