Friends and family assemble to honor the victim of the Driving Park Bridge hit-and-run
Rochester, New York – Family members met on Saturday at Driving Park Bridge for a vigil to celebrate the life of Billy Smith, 65.
The driver who was involved in the collision, according to the officers, fled the area and is still missing.
On April 11, shortly after 7:15 a.m., Smith was struck. On the spot, he was declared deceased.
“It was a bad tragedy that happened,” said Kenneth Brand, his brother. “We had to find out like this, we had to get the family together, but it’s sad. For something like this, for family and stuff to get together, it shouldn’t happen.”
The cause of Smith’s death is still being looked into. His spouse recalls him as an exceptional individual.
“He was a real nice guy,” said Smith’s wife. “He’s going to be missed. That was my best friend, my everything. He left me too early.”
We kindly request that anyone with information or security footage contact 911.
