The Canandaigua Veterans Affairs is getting millions of dollars in federal funding to modernize and expand its campus
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Canandaigua Veterans Affairs is getting millions of dollars from the federal government to update and grow its campus. This is part of a long-term project that has already cost millions.
Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand made the announcement at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon. They pointed out that the facility was supposed to close in 2003.
They also said that several community projects in Rochester and the Finger Lakes Area, such as Rise Up Rochester and Lifespan, would get more than $250 million.
Over the next 20 years, the VA campus project will cost more than $500 million.
In this last part of the project, ten new cottages with 120 units of housing for veterans will be built as part of a new, high-tech outpatient clinic complex.
Veterans from the area, officials from the VA, and people from community groups that will benefit from the investments were also on stage.
