New 911 procedure in Ontario County
Ontario, New York – The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has a new 911 procedure.
Now, when someone calls on a cell phone and gets disconnected, dispatchers will try two ways of getting back in touch.
They’ll first call the number back to see if there’s an emergency.
If the call goes unanswered, the 911 center will send a text message asking for the caller to either call or text back. This will allow for emergency communication in scenarios where speaking to a dispatcher isn’t possible.
