68 overdoses, 9 fatal in August reported in Monroe County
Rochester, New York — In the past month, nine people died of opioid overdose.
According to Monroe County, 68 people overdosed in total. So far in 2021, 468 people have overdosed. Ninety-one have died.
The average age of overdose victims in August was 38.5. The oldest victim was 68, the youngest was 19. Forty-seven were men. Twenty-one were women.
Twenty-nine overdoses happened in the city, 19 in Greece, and three in Gates, Henrietta, and Irondequoit. Penfield, Spencerport, Sweden, and Webster each recorded two overdoses. Brighton, Chili, and East Rochester recorded one apiece.
According to reports, the majority of people who overdosed last month were Caucasian (52), followed by Hispanic (10), and African American (6).
