Golisano Children’s Hospital filled to capacity
Rochester, New York – Sunday the Physician-in-Chief of Golisano Children’s Hospital reported that the hospital is filled to capacity.
This comes as COVID-related hospitalizations continue to rise locally.
According to Dr. Patrick Brophy, the staff is seeing the same rise in respiratory illness right now that they normally see in the fall.
A lack of masking and social distancing is likely to blame, and with the delta variant spreading, the situation could get worse, Dr. Brophy said.
“We’re full. And on top of being full we’re in a situation where we could see COVID explode. Our ICU is full of patients. We have 24 beds operationalized in that space right now, and the rest of the hospital is full too. If we don’t think about our community in terms of trying to prevent COVID and get vaccinated, the resources that we have become stretched,” said Dr. Brophy.
Dr. Brophy says the community needs to get out in front of this.
