The New York State Department of Health updates guidelines for nursing home visits
Rochester, New York — The New York State Department of Health has updated its guidelines. Nursing homes can no longer restrict the number of visitors or the length of visits.
These are good news for families with loved ones in nursing homes who have had limited visitation rights.
According to advocates for nursing homes, they have mixed emotions about the latest changes.
“Today, we’re excited because we have a sense of joy, but there’s a sense of big broken hearts for those we lost to COVID and isolation,” said Marcella Goheen, founder of Essential Care Visitor. “But today we can start, at least the beginning, to restore care, to raise care, and to begin to amend our regard for our vulnerable populations in New York state.”
Visitors still have to follow COVID safety protocols.
The change comes days after a federal agency offered the same guidance.
