Reports: Gov. Cuomo says he’d help Biden “any way I can” amid AG speculation
NEW YORK — There’s speculation in Democratic circles that Gov. Andrew Cuomo is being pushed for consideration as Joe Biden’s attorney general, according to a report from Axios.
Axios says that aides at the National Governors Association are looking into contingencies for replacing Cuomo should he take the job, which Biden would seriously consider him for based on their long friendship.
In an interview Monday on NBC’s “Today” show, Cuomo denied that he was interested in the job while seemingly leaving the possibility open, according to Politico.
Cuomo said that if he was asked to lead the Justice Department by a possible Biden administration, he’d tell Biden he’d help “any way I can.”
“I would say, ‘You are an old friend. You are a good friend. You’re going to win this election. You’re going to be the president. I’ll help you any way I can,’” Cuomo said.
When pressed further, Cuomo said, “I have no interest in going to Washington.”
Axios also reports that Cuomo’s team has denied any interest in serving in a Biden Cabinet.
“100% he’s made zero outreach, has had zero conversations about this and has made his desire to stay in New York clear as day and be governor as long as people want him,” Cuomo’s senior adviser Richard Azzopardi told Axios.
