Officials disappointed they weren’t included in the decision to shut down certain correctional facilities

Willard, New York — Some officials are concerned about the state’s decision to close six correctional facilities.
One of the facilities to close in Spring of 2022 is Willard Correctional Facility where officials gathered outside on Friday.
According to officials, they’re disappointed they weren’t included in the decision to shut down certain facilities, and now they are looking to have a conversation with state leaders.
“You cannot make these local decisions without involving local people,” said Senator Pam Helming. “We won’t let our employees and the families be left behind, we can’t let this facility go dormant and we can’t make this community suffer through yet one more closure,” she continued.
This comes as the union continues to call for safer facilities as inmate violence against staff reached a five-year high in 2021.
