New York – The State Department of Health has updated guidance for students 12 and older, who play sports and get exposed to COVID-19.

Any student who is exposed to COVID-19 as a close contact will only be allowed to continue participating in sports if they are vaccinated and boosted, according to the State Department of Health.

Normal participation in school will be permitted among those students who are not boosted.

Here’s how the guidance from the Department of Health reads:

“Individuals 12 years and older who are eligible for a booster but not boosted, and who have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19 cannot participate in extracurricular or after school activities, and aside from school attendance for instruction and bus travel, must adhere to a 5-day quarantine at home. Fully-vaccinated 5-11-year-old children are not eligible for a booster and have no further restrictions.”
