Man beat his minor grandson to death using sledgehammer and wood cane accusing the boy of stealing his belongings
We have seen many times how people are losing their minds when it comes to money, but this man went step further when he killed his minor grandson accusing him that he stole his money.
According to police reports, the incident happened back in September when the suspect identified as the 53-year-old A. Martina, beat his grandson to death while the boy was at a sleepover with his brother in his house.
The Wisconsin man didn’t think twice when he saw that his money was not where he left it and immediately accused the 12-year-old A. Smith that he took it from there. In the early morning hours, Martina went to the room where the boy was sleeping and starting beating him using sledgehammer, wood cane, mallet and coat rack.
The boy’s grandmother and legal guardian, had received a text message from Martina accusing Smith of stealing his money. When she asked where the boy was, Martina replied: “He’s bleeding.”
The grandmother rushed to the house to take the victim and his brother along with her daughter and the daughter’s boyfriend. As soon as they arrived at the house, Smith’s little brother scared to death ran through the door and got into their car.
When the three of them got into the house, they saw Martina dragging the blooded body from the bathroom to the kitchen. There was blood everywhere in the house, in the bathroom, kitchen, on the floor on the walls, the place was simply a mess.
The boy suffered very serious injuries and his condition was critical at the moment when his relatives arrived. They immediately called 911 and the boy was rushed to the nearest hospital. Initially, doctors were able to stabilize him and he was moved to another, bigger hospital for additional treatment. However, he died shortly after arrival there.
His cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force injuries to the head and the manner of the boy’s death was ruled a homicide. Smith’s brother also suffered injuries, but he was in stable, non-life-threatening condition.
According to the little brother, Martina started beating Smith while they were asleep. He was woken up by the sound of Martina yelling at Smith. The younger brother saw how Martina was beating Smith with his hands and the sledgehammer. There was blood everywhere in the room before he ran away downstairs.
Martina’s mother who was also in the house witnessed the beating. According to her, she was unable to help the boy since she is disabled and added the beating lasted for more than 90 minutes. At one point Smith fled Martina, but he caught him in the kitchen and continued to beat him hard.
The money Martina was asking for was never recovered. While he was deadly beaten by Martina, Smith denied he took the money and even turned his pockets inside out to prove what he was claiming.
If convicted, Martina could face up to two life sentences, plus 60 years in prison and could be fined up to $225,000.
