Large police presence makes people at Ontario Beach Park feel safe
Rochester, New York — After Tuesday’s deadly mass shooting in Uvalde, Rochester beachgoers say they won’t let fear rule their lives.
According to Beth Delgudico, who was out enjoying the holiday weekend at Ontario Beach Park, it’s important to get back out and enjoy life, especially with police adding more patrols at the beach. “We heard on the news that they were going to be around, and we’ve already spotted them in the park, in the parking lot, we’ve spotted them walking around on the grounds,” said Delgudico. “So, we feel pretty good and just come in during daylight hours.”
Ensuring everyone remained safe while having a good time, police were stationed all across the beach.
According to Crystal Tilson, the increased security makes her feel safe enough to get back in large crowds again, especially with her kids. “I have my babies out here, my little ones so it makes me feel safe and protected,” said Tilson. “You just have to be aware of your surroundings at all times, but I feel protected and safe.”
The police presence made her feel more comfortable, even after seeing what happened in Buffalo and Uvalde, Tara Tilson said.“It’s kind of crazy to know there is a lot going on right now, but you still have to come out and enjoy everything,” she said. “You can’t just be locked inside, you have to come outside. But I feel safe a little bit bringing my son outside, it’s OK.”
According to Delgudico, she’s even looking forward to coming back in the summer. “I think this is a great way for us to put down our laptops, and put down our video games, and just get out and enjoy each other,” she said.
