Just 50 days away: There aren’t many hotel rooms left for the weekend of the complete solar eclipse
Rochester, New York – Less than 50 days remain until the complete solar eclipse, which will draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to the area to witness it.
Many of the hotels in our neighborhood are fully booked for some time. Some that are still available, meanwhile, are selling for a hefty price.
There are not many hotel rooms in the Rochester area, with prices ranging from $400 to $600 and even up to $1,000 or more per night, according to a search on hotels.com.
For the past fifteen months, reservations for the eclipse weekend at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Rochester have been sold out. Planning has taken place over over three years.
“It’s a one-shot deal. We can’t spread it out over time. It also has a lot to do with the weather, so we have to build events around the possibility of maybe not having sunshine that day. The surrounding events have a lot more to do with the success of the experience,” said Travania Clark, director of sales for Hyatt Regency Rochester.
The Hyatt is located in the center of downtown, surrounded by all the shops and attractions the city has to offer, thus according to Clark, demand was extremely high.
“We want people to come in and enjoy the full weekend, not just come in for that one event. It’s about having somebody fall in love with Rochester. Totality out in Henrietta is exactly the same, but where else can you walk to the museum to take part in an activity throughout the weekend?” said Clark, “Our goal, really, as it always is, is to get people to come in not just for the prime event but to get them to come in and enjoy our community, enjoy our restaurants and our museums, and really have Rochester become a beloved location for future travel as well.”
