Former Rochester mayor has filed paperwork, plans to open law firm

Rochester, New York – Lovely Warren, who used to be Rochester mayor, has filed papers that show she wants to start her own law firm.
Warren is an attorney, and on Thursday she filed a certificate with the Monroe County Clerk’s Office saying that she would do business as the Law Office of Lovely A. Warren. According to the filing, the office would be on Browncroft Boulevard in the southeast of the city.
It is not clear what kind of law Warren wants to practice. She didn’t answer right away when asked for her opinion.
Warren went to Albany Law School and got her law degree. In 2004, she was admitted to the New York State Bar, but she has spent most of her career in politics. She worked for Assemblyman David Gantt for a long time as his legislative assistant. After he died, she was elected to City Council, where she eventually became president.
She went on to become the first woman and youngest person ever to be elected mayor of Rochester. Warren lost the Democratic primary to Malik Evans in 2021, and she quit her job later that year as part of a deal to settle felony campaign finance charges.
Warren got back into politics in September when she was chosen to be the leader of the Democratic Committee for Monroe County’s 22nd Legislative District. Warren looked up to Gantt, who was a member of the County Legislature from 1973 to 1982 and fought for the 22nd District.
