Fmr. USPS employee pleads guilty after 700 mailings found in vehicle trunk

Buffalo, N.Y. – A former postal worker pleaded guilty to a federal charge after more than 700 pieces of undelivered mail were found in the trunk of his vehicle.

Brandon Wilson, 27, of Buffalo pleaded guilty to a charge of delay or destruction of U.S. mail.

Federal prosecutors say Customs and Border Protection officers found 701 pieces of mail, along with a USPS ID and uniform, in the trunk of Wilson’s vehicle at the Peace Bridge port of entry in November.

Wilson, who was a USPS employee at the time, reportedly told officers the mail belonged to him and his mother. Prosecutors say he later confessed to keeping the items after he didn’t finish his deliveries.

The 701 mail items reportedly included three absentee ballots meant to be mailed to voters, more than 100 political mailings, 218 first class items, more than 300 standard mailings and other assorted items.

The items were meant to be mailed to Buffalo-area addresses.

Wilson faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced in May.
