Additional relief for small landlords in The City of Auburn
Auburn, New York – The City Council approved an amendment to the Community Development Block Grant program that allocates $34,000 to landlords who operate one to four-unit properties with tenants who have not been able to pay their rent, due to COVID-19.
According to Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason, the money is unspent funds from an earlier $500,000 housing program.
The maximum grant amount available is $5,000 and is limited to minor repairs to the unit or up to 2-months of mortgage/tax payments (taxes must be in escrow to qualify), Mason said.
Tenants must meet household income eligibility and proof of COVID-related income loss. The availability of this grant is extremely limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
In order to ensure affordable rent is charged and that units are rented to tenants of low to moderate-income, Landlords will be monitored for two years.
